Metaphysical meaning of Jabez (mbd)
Jabez, ja'-bez (Heb.)--it causes travail; who causes pain; he causes sorrow.

a A city in Judah (I Chron. 2:55). b The name of a man of Judah. "And Jabez was more honorable than his brethren: and his mother called his name Jabez, saying, Because I bare him with sorrow. And Jabez called on the God of Israel, saying, Oh that thou wouldest bless me indeed, and enlarge my border, and that thy hand might be with me, and that thou wouldest keep me from evil, that it be not to my sorrow! And God granted him that which he requested" (I Chron. 4:9, 10).

Meta. An awakening to the understanding that evil causes sorrow; also the earnest desire and prayer that the awakened individual directs toward God, inner Spirit, for deliverance from error that he may be blessed and may not reap error's results. In this awakening in man for which Jabez stands, there is a realization of victory, an inner assurance of the good that is so earnestly desired.
