Metaphysical meaning of Kiriath-sepher (mbd)
Kiriath-sepher (A. V., Kirjath-sepher), kir'-i-ath-se'-pher (Heb.)--city of engravings; city of scribes; city of the scrolls; city of books; city of numbers; city of writings; city of instruction; city of learning.
A former name of the city of Debir (Josh. 15:15). Kiriath-sannah is the same place.
Meta. Thoughts relating to understanding. The central idea here seems to be that of storing up knowledge by the study of books, by memorizing, and so forth. The definitions of Kiriath-sepher point more to the outer than the inner. But man must rise to a comprehension of the truth that the source of true knowing is the Spirit of truth at the very center of his own being.
